Pockets of creativity, energy and passion wait for discovery behind white sheer fabric hanging from the ceiling to create spaces that unfold and reveal a group of artists busy at work, or lovers lost in each other, or a technical discussion on lens aperture. As the night matures the open-turntable DJ's reach deep into their crates and offer edgy sounds of everything from deep house and jungle to soul, jazz and funk.
Art Mondays is perfect for a low key yet highly engaging Monday night out. Come to dine and enjoy a Martini, sit at an art station and find your hidden Picasso over coffee, dessert and conversation, or sketch the figure study models.
Under the directorship of curator and co-owner Karen Fain, Art Mondays provides one of Atlanta's most reliable and innovative weekly forums for nourishing the local art scene in part by serving as a necessary gallery option for both emerging artists and established artists looking to show new or innovative work. The artwork is rotated between a main wall, stage wall, and lounge in weekly, bi weekly and/or monthly showings that open at 7pm and feature a wide variety of styles including but not limited to mixed media, small scale sculpture, photography, and painted works. Artists are required to participate in hanging their own work as well as be available for opening night's artist talk where a Q and A between the artists, moderator and audience has been known to generate passionate discussion on questions like: What is art? The nature of erotica in art. Are photographers artists? The business of art.
The figure study session is a popular element of Art Mondays that offers area artists the weekly opportunity to draw live, usually nude, models. These models are provided from 8-10pm and artists are encouraged to participate by bringing paints, charcoals, pen, and/or pencils, and paper.
Every year Art Mondays produces several special events with themes that are rooted in the sphere of visual art. Fashion District, held seasonally, brings together parts of Atlanta's fashion industry in a fun event that promotes local boutiques, hair and makeup artists, male and female models and up and coming clothing designers.
The concept of food as an aphrodisiac is explored in works submitted to the yearly show titled Passion Fruits. This well supported event has inspired artists to produce works that examine this theme using thrilling and luxurious imagery.
Hedonism is an annual event that exhibits photographic and visual art works that explore society's taboos. Fused along with the art showing are body painting, henna tattooing, musical guests, food and beverage sponsors and an expanded figure study session.
Artists interested in showing please submit to the attention of Karen Fain three 300 dpi images to email: info@apachecafe.info. Models interested in posing should send inquiries to the same email. DJs interested in spinning should sign-up on the DJ list beginning at 7pm. All styles are welcome. Needles, mixer, and turntables are provided.
